Japan Coops began Post Earthquake Relief efforts

Earthquake Task Force & the institution of Earthquake Relief Fund Raising (http://jccu.coop/eng/)
The consumer co-operatives nationwide have set up a task force at the earthquake-affected areas.

Folowing are the Latest developments:



1. Supply of emergency commodities.



JCCU has already supplied 29,000 pet bottles (500ml) of tea, 29,000-cup noodles, 27,000 bags of cookie, bread with longer expiry date, some quantities of banana, fruit juice, towels and some blankets and 25,000 pieces of pocket heater.



2. Dispatch of human support to coordinate the activities of the task force.



On the 13th, Co-op Kobe and the JCCU dispatched 5 volunteer staffs 3 and 2 respectively to Miyagi Co-op to serve as secretariats to the task force to assist in the restoration effort.
They arrived in Sendai in the evening of 13th.
Their work would include:

  • Coordinating the clearing exercise of damaged stores.
  • Gathering information concerning the situation of the damage to members and the co-operative facilities.
  • Confirming the safety of staff and the members
  • Coordinating the restoration exercise of the store and the home delivery business.

3. Earthquake Relief Fund Raising:

The consumer co-operatives nationwide are organizing an urgent donation as an earthquake relief fund.
